Return
by Elisabeth Pruitt
"Hail, who goes? What do ye carry?"
"Watch, I carry naught."
"Lie not, mine eyes perceive an object,
Dim though it may be in this accursed
Fog o' morn."
"Watch, yon city be cold, yon city be
Hardened. Let me pass, O suspicion,
That I may enter the city of men."
"Who be thou? What is thine package?"
"Watch, I am Truth. Pray, give me
License to pass, afore the flame orb
Rises. The light of Sardonicity shall
Destroy this gift. I fled from this
City long ago, taking it with me,
Lest it be entirely destroyed.
I return to mankind
Humanity."
